A commission starts with a place: a stretch of river, a harbour, a mill race. I visit it at least twice, in different light, before anything is agreed.
What you decide
You choose the place and the size. Everything else, including the colours and what is left out, is decided on the canvas. You will see the painting once, when it is nearly done, and can decline it at that point.
Timing and cost
Four months is typical. Half is due when the work begins and half on delivery. Travel outside Saxony is charged at cost.
